Bullet Journal was developed by Ryder Carroll, an Art Director and Interaction Designer living in Brooklyn, NY. Through many years of trial and error, the system has evolved into the ideas presented here. We see this as an evolving, adaptable platform meant to be shared and self curated as you determine what works best for you. This website, in addition to serving as our thank you to our generous community, is a space where inspiration, organization, and general musings on mindfulness can live and grow with the support of our talented Bullet Journalists.

How to Manage Your Tasks With a Notebook (Not an App)
Should you use a digital task manager app - or is it better to use a notebook? Ryder weighs the pros and cons of his analog Bullet Journal practice vs. the power of a digital todo list app.

4 Ways To Get Your Bullet Journal Practice Back On Track
hello ryder is it possible to have french subtitles . for frenchies ;)
Thank you for all your efforts and knowledge and that you share it with us!🙏🏻💖🔥
So bullet note is basicly a notebook you pay triple price and have triple more work to do? 😂
Ryder, I don’t even think our eyeballs and brains are meant to be on computers and staring at screens for so long each day, day after day, or our ears to be plugged with ear buds for hours per day. With analog our brain engages how it’s meant to, our eyes and brains aren’t being assaulted with colors, images and having to make constant micro decisions. Look here, look there. It’s overwhelming. No one can admit it. Everyone is going with the electronic flow. I’d like to see Analog more encouraged in the workplace. When I worked I had A5 journals provided by the company and I kept on top of everything in a bullet style method for years. I never lost, or forgot or missed much. Flipping back through a journal puts you back to that time, that conversation, the nuance. Scratching off tasks is the best for mind and soul at work. Having your sequential hard bound books, your work history as a collection is a sound practice. You can’t get this from electronic anything. What’s old is new again. ❤️ yeah bujo!
2/5.
What about tasks from monthly log, projects, deadlines, slack, email, reminders. How do I process all of these and do I migrate every task I’m doing today to the daily log?
Your Awesome! Fell down the BuJo Rabbit Hole but taking in a lot as I stare at my Bujo gaining idea's Thank You Very Much.
im a little late... but I was introduced to Bullet Journaling last year in July. I started with a Drawing pad.. to see if I would stick with it.... Well I did! Its been like a meditation for me with setting up a monthly spread. Its not the exact system that I am seeing here..... but I just got the book yesterday... and I am not a big reader but I have very much been enjoying this book. I love that it talks about how to Take Notes, something I personally been working on this year for Myself. Its not about writing everything down which I used to do in school and for work. Then I just had pages with words and lost meanings. I also love the structure of the Method here. As my book is kind of together, but im tweaking it each Month. Looking forward to June now so I can try more of The Actual Method.. Really loved that I was introduced to this and its helped me with staying Focused, Productive, and Less Stressed. I love writing and clearing my mind and its become just an amazing Tool for my everyday. I thank you Very Much. Book is beautifully structured too. As I have a short attention span, and reading through it is nice because its structured in short bursts, not long chapters and doesn't drain my mind, it keeps me engaged and wanting to keep reading. Thank You So Much.
i was introduced to Bullet Journal through a streamer on twitch... and I started last Year on a Drawing Book to see if it was something I would stick with... and Wow... it has.. The Bujo and a WhiteBoard has been the best investment for me this year.
Making sure to END things in time, when they're still fun..
There's one thing I didn't understand, what is the future log for? To simply dump the things that we couldn't finish last month and now in this new month not important to us?
The Future Log is a persistent spread toward the front of the notebook for the months beyond this current one. So if you just set up a notebook, it would be for June - November (6 months), because you will set up a May Monthly Log. The Future Log is to log the actions or events that are outside of that current month. You reference the Future Log when you migrate each week/month for what becomes relevant - hope this helps!
Wow profound insight! Thank you for sharing this….definitely adding this to my BuJo practice!
i might get it if you didnt look like youre about to cry.
Please please please, if you could make more content around ADHD and how bullet journal can help this would be awesome. It's already changing my life but I feel it could help me even more
Dear Ryder, Thank you for helping to stay intentional in the busy digital age. I have a question for you. Now that pocket-sized Bullet Journal came out I am very interested in integrating that format into my practice. I did indeed find it hard sometimes to carry full-sized notebooks around, so that they can be with me at times when some urgent thoughts or ideas come and need to be recorded. Pocket BuJo seems like a great design and solution. But could you , please, explain how one can use it alongside the full-sized notebook and integrate the two seamlessly to still achieve clarity and transparency? Thank you in advance and thank you for all you do!
This. Is. Gold. Thank you Ryder :)
Thank you! I've been feeling like a failure for exactly these reasons. I also need the full version of this video!
Great video, thanks 🙏
Hi Cathy :) Thank you for watching!
Ryder, what is the best way to schedule and track my job hunting efforts? I’ve been in my current job for almost 20 years and about 7-9 years from retirement.
Brilliant 💎👏🏻
It is about use not one or other, it is about use wisely both of them.
Exactly
“The Goldilocks Zone” 😂❤ I’m stealing that phrase. Thanks!
I had a separate habit tracker I was using that I saw in a weekly journal at a book shop. Going to give this a try. I like how simple it is to track behavior and it uses the month calendar page.
We like simplicity here
My intention is to regain my mental health, and get back to having a life. Not sure how to journal that one, but I am willing to give it a go.
Great ideas! Especially #1 as only priority.
This is a game changer!
I cannot unsee that you voiced over your own voice. Makes your content unwatchable.
THIS. You put it so eloquently, far better than I do when I am on someone's channel.(the planner and stationery world) and I "correct" them when they write their 5 priorities. lol Just one priority, one focus.
That is why i hate top 3 priority or focus. I just need one not 3
I want to what’s the difference between BuJo & Interstitial journaling?
Ryder! You always help me! This video on priority is hugely insightful. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!
Happy to help! Thank you for watching!
There are so many things clamoring to get done in my head 😮! It’s a challenge not to get distracted by the all little things😊!
I find I have insecutiries around forgetting things. Daily/rapid logging helps me with this, because then I can write them down. This way they aren't forgotten, I just have other things that need to get done first.
You are right ,i have a tendency to skip the first priority . Thank you
I use Google tasks/calendar for things that are both very time sensitive and in the future. My phone is set to remind me about these things so even if that's a bad PTSD day, I'll still do the thing is the very small window of time when I can do it. Other stuff gets the notebook. I need my tasks to be in tangible for them to be real. I love digital tools, but they are... slippery.
Oh my … I couldn’t keep up the writing with my ADHD brain. Before the pen hits the paper, I’ve had a 1000 thoughts.

Reframing and changing phrases for tasks/to-dos is a great idea! ^^ Was wondering if you have suggestions on how to apply something like that to long-term goals? I tend to be someone that follows through with small tasks and short-term goals, but have this problem where long-term goals are built up to be intimidating in my mind and make it hard to follow through. Even when I break it down in steps, the occasional set-back and the long-term goal sitting in the back of my mind tend to be sources for high-anxiety in my life. Would also appreciate what you can recommend for dealing with burn-out. ^^;
Uuugghh I needed this so bad! ❤ thank you !
I like the game board analogy. Pieces pushing out other pieces is a perfect description
we can't let the Queen fall off!
I started using Planner templates in Good notes which have links to days months and year. You can easily jump from any day to week, to month you want. Try it you will like it. It’s kind a mix of real bujo and digital planner.
Amazing video with powerful messages and reminders for why analog planning is so critical.I am sharing this video with my planner bestie and my law students ASAP. Thank you for sharing your Words of Wisdom (WOW). Keep them coming!
Wow thank you for your kind words! I think when people are as busy as law students, it can be hard to say that slowing down actually can help you speed up!
Best
Very true! That's why I like that some journalers online say that you don't have to journal every day, and journal only when you feel like it/need it. Journalling can always be something to get back on the ball of, and something I'm starting to do with some of my half-filled journals and notebooks. ^^
I frickin loved bullet Journaling, I did do it a bit more artsy because doing art is a way for me to get away out of the world for a little bit, but to make time to make bigger things was too tiring or took too much time so I did it through my Journaling cuz it doesn't take too much time to make a weekly spread.. If I really didn't have time I'd keep it this simple.. I didn't do it for the art, the basic system worked so damn well for me, I have adhd and planning is always been a struggle but this helped soo so much
The Ryder Caroll!!! Nice. You have kind eyes
that is sweet, thank you
Ryder man, good stuff. I’ve incorporated BuJo into my daily practice and notice a big difference around intentions. In this video you mentioned you use both a BuJo and task manager, but I dont believe you outlined how you use them both together….Can you please explain that a bit more? What goes into a task manager vs. your BuJo?
I admire Ryder’s humble confidence. He knows his methods work, but never claims they are the only solution. That state of mind is inviting, realistic, and practical. Following BUJO’s practices and rituals has helped to recover a purposeful way of living; that I had lost due to anxiety and depression.
guys he's in an empty room
Great video, thanks! I have a question regarding task planning. How do you handle recurring tasks? I have a lot of recurring tasks, big and small, from monthly to yearly and it gets confusing to keep a good overview. Would be great to get inspiration from you! Greetings from Germany
